Responsibilities
- Design, develop, integrate, and maintain low-level CPU software in Arista products.
- Develop automated tests using C, C++, and Python.
- Bring up and qualify new CPUs, CPU boards, and related components with hardware engineers and vendors.
- Track Linux Kernel developments and identify relevant features for Arista products and internal development.
- Contribute features to upstream open source BIOS communities.
- Review and contribute to functional and design specifications.
- Analyze and fix issues found in system testing and customer networks.
- Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
- Mentor new and junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; alternatively, a master’s degree plus 6 years, a Ph.D. plus 3 years, or equivalent work experience.
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience programming in C.
- Experience designing and developing CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software.
- Experience bringing up new CPU boards.
- Significant hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and fixing low-level CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader issues.
- Knowledge of C++ and Python is desirable.
- Familiarity with Linux Kernel architecture, design, and implementation is desirable.
- Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles is desirable.
- Applied understanding of modern software engineering practices, strong troubleshooting and implementation skills, and the ability to work independently or in small teams.
- Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.

- The role offers a base pay range of $120,000 to $195,000 across Canada, with location-specific ranges and potential discretionary bonuses and equity.
