Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to refine requirements and shape technical solutions.
- Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain backend features using Python, Django, PostgreSQL, and related technologies.
- Own work from technical design through implementation, production release, and ongoing support.
- Navigate and improve a large, mature production codebase.
- Troubleshoot issues across application logic, data flows, APIs, background jobs, and database layers.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement scalable improvements.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Review tickets, communicate progress, provide peer feedback, and contribute to engineering practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend software development experience.
- Deep, career-focused experience using Python as a primary backend language.
- Production experience with Django or deep experience with FastAPI, Flask, or another Python web framework.
- Experience owning features or technical projects from design through deployment and maintenance.
- Strong debugging skills and experience with large, complex, mature codebases.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including indexing, query optimization, and diagnosing slow queries.
- Experience building and maintaining REST APIs.
- Ability to reason about performance, scalability, and reliability in production systems.
- Familiarity with Celery, Redis, Git, and modern backend development workflows.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently while aligning with the broader team.
- Preferred: experience with trading, portfolio management, wealth management, risk, reporting, financial software, large datasets, AWS or other cloud platforms, NumPy, pandas, or similar Python data tools.
- Preferred: background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
