Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain Datadog observability across cloud and on-premises environments, including infrastructure monitoring, APM, distributed tracing, log management, RUM, and synthetic monitoring.
- Build dashboards, SLOs, and intelligent alerting policies that provide actionable signals for on-call teams.
- Implement and tune observability for healthcare applications and infrastructure, including EHR/EMR platforms, HL7/FHIR interfaces, and clinical systems.
- Configure log pipelines, custom metrics, and telemetry ingestion using Datadog Agent, OpenTelemetry, and APIs.
- Partner with SRE and engineering teams on incident detection, triage, resolution, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Integrate Datadog with ITSM, CI/CD, security tooling, and Tanium endpoint and asset data.
- Manage Datadog configuration as code using Terraform or the Datadog API/CLI.
- Optimize Datadog usage, tagging, data retention, cost, and performance.
- Align observability practices with HIPAA, NIST SP 800-53, security requirements, and Zero Trust principles.
- Deliver reports on system health, performance trends, and reliability posture.
- Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to align observability strategy with mission and business objectives.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers on observability and Datadog practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in observability, DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering, including substantial hands-on Datadog administration and architecture.
- U.S. citizenship and willingness to undergo a U.S. Government background investigation.
- Deep hands-on experience with Datadog APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Log Management, Synthetic Monitoring, RUM, and Cloud Security Management.
- Experience with healthcare applications and infrastructure in HIPAA-regulated environments is highly valued.
- Familiarity with Tanium or similar endpoint management and visibility platforms is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and hybrid or on-premises infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Terraform, Python, and Bash for configuration-as-code and pipeline automation.
- Understanding of SRE principles, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident management, and root-cause analysis.
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, HIPAA technical safeguards, and Zero Trust architecture principles.
- Experience integrating observability tooling with ServiceNow, Jira, CI/CD pipelines, and SIEM or security tooling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience is considered.
- Three or more listed certifications are expected, including Datadog, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, or ITIL certifications.
