Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction for the expanded engineering reporting portfolio and guide solutions from idea through production.
- Architect data pipelines, API and microservices-based data services, analytics models, and observability.
- Define canonical data models and schema contracts using OpenAPI and Avro, including standards for schema and data drift.
- Establish standards for data quality, testing, security, monitoring, CI/CD, and production readiness.
- Review designs and code, resolve cross-system issues, and mentor Software Engineer III team members.
- Partner with platform and value-stream leaders to move products into sustainable business-hours support, with occasional overlap with U.S.-based colleagues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10 or more years of software, data, or platform engineering experience, including ownership of design and production delivery for complex systems.
- Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Google BigQuery, Apache Airflow, and Apache Kafka or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Experience designing and implementing API and microservices architectures, including REST contracts in OpenAPI, event schemas in Avro, canonical data modeling, and schema evolution and versioning.
- Experience with real-time or event-driven data delivery and CI/CD pipelines.
- Preferred experience defining engineering telemetry, service-level measures, or service health indicators such as the Golden Signals.
- Preferred experience with Dataflow, Apache Beam, Dataform, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Looker, Plotly Dash, or Power BI.
- Experience establishing technical standards adopted across engineering teams is preferred.
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification is preferred.
