Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through prototyping, targeted code reviews, technical troubleshooting, and resolution of complex engineering challenges.
- Lead the resolution of high-severity issues involving performance, reliability, security, cloud costs, and complex integrations across claims and billing systems.
- Define architecture, technical standards, and technology roadmaps for Claims and Billing Core Systems.
- Design scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-effective solutions with architects and engineering teams.
- Implement practical AI and agentic AI solutions, including frameworks and guardrails that improve engineering productivity.
- Research emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concepts supporting innovation and business outcomes.
- Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly, build alignment through influence, and mentor senior engineers and technical leaders.
Requirements
- Senior or Principal-level experience in software engineering, architecture, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong hands-on engineering experience with prototyping, targeted code reviews, technical troubleshooting, and complex production issues.
- Expertise in system design, architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, microservices, distributed systems, security, and observability.
- Practical experience implementing AI or agentic AI solutions in products, platforms, or engineering processes.
- Expert hands-on experience with Java and Node.js is a strong asset.
- Experience with Guidewire ClaimCenter and BillingCenter is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to executive stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor others and lead through influence rather than formal authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering; a master’s degree or higher is an asset.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada; Quebec-based candidates must be bilingual because of regular interaction with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
