Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control-plane services and APIs for DNS zones, records, views, policies, and routing configuration.
  • Build distributed workflows for validation, change orchestration, propagation, reconciliation, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop production services and libraries primarily in Java, with supporting Python automation.
  • Improve reliability through idempotency, optimistic concurrency, auditability, rollback paths, canary releases, and feature flags.
  • Own observability and operational readiness, including metrics, logs, tracing, SLOs, runbooks, capacity planning, and on-call participation.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools and agentic workflows for implementation, testing, incident investigation, and operational automation with appropriate human review.
  • Partner with DNS data plane, security, networking, and SRE teams.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and mentoring.

Requirements

  • 6-8+ years of professional software engineering experience and 4+ years building production distributed systems, cloud services, or control-plane platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, including concurrent programming and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows while maintaining engineering judgment, security, and quality controls.
  • Strong API design skills, including RESTful services and OpenAPI/Swagger or comparable API contracts.
  • Experience with asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, concurrency control, and failure recovery in stateful workflows.
  • Understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and highly available distributed systems.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate in a relevant field may qualify with specified software development experience; 8 years of software development experience may also qualify without a listed degree.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, system-level testing and automation, and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Preferred experience includes authoritative DNS, DNS delegation, TTLs, DNSSEC, cloud control planes, multi-tenant APIs, relational or distributed data stores, schema evolution, CI/CD platforms, and 24/7 mission-critical operations.
