Base Salary

$63k - $102k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable services for API and routing engine tiers with strong deployment, resilience, and observability practices.
  • Design and improve services supporting routing-data consumption and storage.
  • Drive the design, development, and testing of Mapbox tools, internal automations, quality metrics, and analytics.
  • Run experiments evaluating the quality, reliability, and capacity of user-facing navigation products.
  • Implement end-to-end features, review code and design documents, shepherd releases, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with product owners, sales engineering, management, and navigation teams to shape product direction.

Requirements

  • Experience engineering web services with Rust or TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Experience building highly available API services in container-based environments such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes on AWS.
  • Proficiency with monitoring instrumentation, incident triage, customer issue resolution, and continuous product improvement.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and distributed systems, including fault tolerance, consistency, and service discovery.
  • Ability to develop long-term technical strategies and reduce systemic technical debt across departments.
  • Extensive experience driving high-visibility initiatives that improve engineering standards and operational excellence.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience or interest in solving geospatial problems.
  • Mentorship experience, strong communication skills, rigorous problem-solving, and a commitment to diverse and multidisciplinary collaboration are valued.
