Responsibilities
- Build extremely large-scale platform products and services used by Roku engineers and consumers across millions of devices.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to take concepts from ideation through production deployment and support.
- Lead technology evaluation and promote development best practices through the software development lifecycle, including code and design reviews.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Participate in scoping, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience building large-scale distributed systems.
- At least 5 years of experience working with cloud-based platforms and infrastructure.
- Understanding of eventual consistency and the CAP theorem.
- Ability and desire to lead the design and implementation of backend services, with deep understanding of different data platforms.
- Deep experience building Java microservices for container platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of Aurora MySQL and DynamoDB.
- Hands-on experience with AWS ALB, ECS, RDS, or similar cloud services.
- Experience with protocols and data formats including REST, WebSockets, HTTPS, JSON, and Protobuf.
- Ability to drive timely design consensus with senior team members.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks, including the ability to verify agent output and ship work using these tools.
