Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, implement, and enhance COBOL programs for mainframe applications.
- Use JCL for batch processing, job scheduling, and system utilities.
- Design, maintain, and optimize DB2 database structures, SQL queries, and related procedures.
- Provide technical support, troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.
- Analyze requirements and translate them into technical specifications and mainframe solutions.
- Participate in system design, code reviews, and architectural discussions.
- Create and maintain technical and operational documentation.
- Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, development teams, and operations staff.
- Mentor junior team members and share technical knowledge.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; a master's degree in Software Engineering is also listed.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development and support.
- Proven experience with the full software development lifecycle in a mainframe environment.
- Expert-level COBOL proficiency, preferably IBM Enterprise COBOL.
- Strong DB2 for z/OS experience, including SQL, DDL, DML, performance tuning, and utilities.
- In-depth JCL knowledge and proficient TSO/ISPF use.
- Familiarity with mainframe utilities such as IDCAMS, IEBGENER, and SYNCSORT.
- Understanding of mainframe architecture, VSAM, sequential files, and batch processing.
- Preferred experience with CICS, VSAM, MQSeries, IMS, Assembler, CA-7, OPC/TWS, Endevor, CA-Librarian, or Panvalet.
- Preferred understanding of ITIL principles and structured production support environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and independent-working skills.
- English proficiency at C2 level is required.
