Responsibilities
- Develop and safely modify production Python code, including packages, modules, type hints, exception handling, dependencies, and virtual environments.
- Build and maintain Django applications using models, migrations, querysets, the admin, middleware, settings, and the ORM.
- Develop versioned APIs with Django REST Framework, including serializers, viewsets, permissions, authentication, pagination, and OpenAPI/Swagger contracts.
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, write non-trivial SQL, create indexes and migrations, inspect query plans, and manage transaction behavior under load.
- Implement and operate asynchronous task or message queues, workers, scheduling, retries with backoff, failure handling, and idempotent task execution.
- Use Redis as a broker, result backend, and cache while managing keys, expiry, data structures, connections, memory, and restarts.
- Load and transform CSV, Excel, JSON, and Parquet data with pandas or polars, including joins, reshaping, data types, null handling, and data tracing.
- Deploy applications to Google Cloud Platform or an equivalent cloud platform, read logs, troubleshoot failed jobs, and manage cloud permissions appropriately.
Requirements
- Production experience with Python and the ability to read and safely change unfamiliar codebases.
- Hands-on Django experience with models, migrations, querysets, the admin, middleware, settings, and ORM performance.
- Experience with Django REST Framework and API design using serializers, viewsets, permissions, authentication, pagination, versioning, and OpenAPI/Swagger.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL, including schema design, indexing, query plans, transactions, migrations, and non-trivial queries.
- Experience with an asynchronous task or message queue such as Celery with Redis or RabbitMQ, RQ, or an equivalent system.
- Working knowledge of Redis as a broker/result backend and cache.
- Experience using pandas or polars for tabular data from CSV, Excel, JSON, and Parquet sources.
- Experience deploying and troubleshooting applications on Google Cloud Platform or an equivalent platform such as Azure or AWS, including compute, database, storage, secrets, and IAM.
- Preferred experience includes Docker, Docker Compose, CI/CD pipelines, Flask, FastAPI, Rust, MongoDB, pytest, structured logging, tracing, metrics, on-call work, third-party API integrations, OAuth2, Django Admin customization, frontend development, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
