Base Salary

$150k - $200k/yr

Responsibilities

Design and build core Metropolis Web Services, including IAM, notifications, message processing, and other foundational infrastructure.
Build and maintain secure, reliable, and observable service mesh infrastructure for hundreds of microservices.
Create developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation to improve safe and efficient delivery.
Make platform-wide decisions regarding service boundaries, API design, data consistency, and reliability.
Architect and optimize high-throughput, low-latency systems supporting millions of global transactions.
Establish monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices targeting 99.99% uptime.
Lead architectural discussions, establish engineering practices, mentor engineers, and contribute to complex implementations.

8+ years of backend software engineering experience focused on distributed systems and platform infrastructure.
Expert-level Java proficiency, including JVM performance, concurrency, and ecosystem tooling.
Production experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and AWS.
Experience designing and implementing large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
Hands-on production observability experience with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
Knowledge of relational databases, Kafka, SQS, caching strategies, and data consistency patterns.
Experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, specifically context engineering.
Strong technical communication, system documentation, technical leadership, and cross-team collaboration skills.
An advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
Scala experience, security compliance expertise, high-growth scaling, open-source or technical writing experience, and hyperscale performance optimization are preferred.

Office-first role requiring at least four days per week on-site.
