Responsibilities
- Research, design, define, develop, test, document, and implement new computer applications and modifications to existing applications.
- Develop computer programs of simple to moderate complexity using prescribed programming languages across personal computer, mainframe, and client-server environments.
- Install software packages and personal computer software and help ensure hardware and software operate efficiently.
- Use programming tools to improve accuracy and productivity.
- Analyze processing problems and coordinate with IT and business-unit associates to identify solutions.
- Consult with and advise business associates about existing or proposed systems through written and oral communication.
- Participate in committee meetings for development and large-scale improvement projects.
- Follow organizational policies, standards, and procedures and perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate selection-criteria experience.
- Above-average aptitude for computer programming, logical problem-solving, and basic mathematics.
- Strong analytical skills, including identifying, defining, and quantifying problems; interpreting data; establishing facts; and developing solutions.
- Programming skills learned through college coursework or self-learning, including examples of research, design, requirements gathering, development, testing, documentation, or production support.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team and motivate coworkers in difficult situations.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Ability to document procedures and activities clearly using prescribed formats and strong English grammar, punctuation, diction, and spelling.
- Proficiency in programming languages required by the applicable business unit, including COBOL for this position.
- Proficiency in word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to perform continuous computer work, extensive reading, and detailed visual inspection.
