Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year technical roadmap and architectural direction for merchant fraud prevention across 2–3 engineering teams.
  • Design and evolve high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that process real-time merchant transactions and support machine learning models and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to identify organizational bottlenecks, assess engineering health, and align technical investments with merchant protection goals.
  • Shape product and technical strategy with engineering and product leaders and establish shared architectural patterns, engineering practices, and quality standards.
  • Mentor and sponsor senior engineers, support their growth, and promote rigorous peer review and psychological safety.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and ML Engineering to evolve infrastructure for model deployment, feature stores, and real-time inference without compromising transaction speed or reliability.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems with strong reliability, performance, and resilience in production.
  • Track record of defining long-term technical strategy through architecture, technical judgment, and communication rather than organizational authority.
  • Deep understanding of security-by-design, including KYC, identity verification, and regulated data handling.
  • Experience partnering across Engineering, Product, Compliance, and ML Engineering to align technical direction and platform investments.
  • Experience building production-grade LLM-powered interfaces, including harnesses, policy enforcement, evaluations, RAG architectures, and secure data handling.
  • Experience with machine learning infrastructure, feature stores, real-time inference, and rapid model deployment is relevant to the role.

Benefits

  • Role is based in the Amsterdam office.
  • Adyen is an office-first company and does not offer remote-only work.
  • The interview process typically takes about 4 weeks, with application updates targeted within 5 business days.
