Software Engineer II – Java Backend/Mobile APIs

Base Salary
$100k - $125k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and support REST/JSON API integrations for iOS and Android applications, including versioning, performance, reliability, and backward compatibility.
- Collaborate with mobile engineers, product, QA, and platform teams to define API contracts and deliver features.
- Containerize applications and deploy and operate them on Kubernetes.
- Support AWS-based cloud-native service delivery across compute, networking, IAM, and logging/monitoring.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement fixes and preventative measures.
- Document APIs, operational runbooks, and support procedures.
- Use enterprise-authorized AI coding assistance for coding, refactoring, testing, and documentation while validating outputs through review, testing, and secure coding practices.
- Consider upstream and downstream systems and technical implications when designing, developing, coding, and troubleshooting.
- Apply software development lifecycle tooling, automation, and AI-assisted development capabilities to improve delivery.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 2 years of applied experience.
- Professional experience building backend services with Java, including Java 25, and Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes, including deployments, services/ingress, ConfigMaps/Secrets, probes, and scaling.
- Experience developing and supporting mobile application APIs using REST/JSON, including versioning and client-impact awareness.
- Practical experience with system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using modern programming and database query languages.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools and the ability to evaluate and validate generated outputs.
- Understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, resiliency, and security expectations.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
- Exposure to agile development, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
- Preferred: AWS engineering experience.
- Preferred: Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases, efficient queries, and data modeling.
- Preferred: Understanding of secure API design, authentication, authorization, input validation, and OWASP considerations.
- Preferred: Ability to participate in support or on-call rotations and manage incidents methodically.
