Base Salary
$112k - $179k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the reliability, availability, performance, and operational health of critical infrastructure services and applications.
- Lead complex production incidents, service recovery, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Define and improve SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, service health metrics, and operational standards.
- Lead observability strategy covering metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
- Manage releases, upgrades, patching, configuration changes, capacity management, maintenance, and technology refreshes.
- Identify and resolve systemic reliability risks, recurring failure modes, capacity constraints, technical debt, and operational risks.
- Lead resilience and recovery initiatives, including failure-mode analysis, performance and capacity testing, disaster recovery, backup, failover, and recovery validation.
- Develop automation and everything-as-code practices to improve deployment, recovery, consistency, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Platform Engineering and application teams on architecture, design, operational requirements, and platform capabilities.
- Establish cloud engineering and reliability best practices, improve operational processes, and mentor junior Cloud Architects.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience, master’s degree with 10 years of experience, or high school diploma/equivalent with 16 years of experience.
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or production systems engineering.
- Extensive experience operating AWS Commercial and AWS GovCloud, including OpenShift ROSA or comparable Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Deep infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform and Ansible or Ansible Tower.
- Advanced proficiency with GitLab and Jenkins CI/CD platforms, including reliability gating and deployment automation.
- Deep experience administering Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Practical experience implementing and managing Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk, and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience owning SLI/SLO and alerting programs, including error budgets, alert rationalization, and noise reduction.
- Extensive scripting and automation proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Go.
- Experience operating in federal or regulated environments such as FISMA, FedRAMP, or NIST 800-53.
- Preferred certifications include AWS, Red Hat ROSA or OpenShift, Azure, GCP, Dynatrace, Datadog, GitLab, Jenkins, and Terraform certifications.
