Responsibilities

  • Own and contribute to discovery, estimation, technical design, implementation, testing, release, production support, and continuous improvement across the full SDLC.
  • Design and evolve scalable microservices and API-based solutions, including service boundaries, resiliency, observability, security, configuration, and backward compatibility.
  • Develop and maintain production-grade Python services and APIs using Flask, OpenAPI patterns, secure coding practices, validation, authentication, authorization, and structured error handling.
  • Design and support service-to-service communication and enterprise integrations using ZeroMQ and other integration patterns.
  • Develop data access layers and efficient queries with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and psycopg2 while supporting schema changes, migrations, performance, and data integrity.
  • Build, package, deploy, and troubleshoot Docker containers in Linux-based on-premises environments, including orchestration environments such as Nomad.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated build and release processes, configuration management, observability, incident response, and production support.
  • Create and maintain unit, integration, API, regression, acceptance, and browser-based tests using Python testing frameworks such as pytest.
  • Support user-facing features and operational dashboards that integrate frontend workflows with backend APIs and data services.
  • Participate in technical planning, code reviews, design discussions, documentation, engineering governance, and stakeholder collaboration.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or backend-focused Full Stack Developer delivering and supporting enterprise applications through the full SDLC.
  • Strong commercial experience developing production services and APIs in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with Flask or a comparable Python web/API framework and OpenAPI or equivalent API specification practices.
  • Practical production experience with microservices and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on PostgreSQL experience including SQL, data modelling, query optimisation, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience with asynchronous or message-based service communication; ZeroMQ experience is strongly required.
  • Experience building and operating Docker containers in Linux environments, ideally in an on-premises or hybrid enterprise setting.
  • Experience with automated testing, code review, version control, and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, stakeholder collaboration, independent decision-making, and prioritisation skills.
  • Preferred experience with C++, CMake, Conan, native libraries, mixed-language Python/native applications, Django, React, TypeScript, Nomad, Jenkins, RPM/CPack, protocol buffers, reliability engineering, performance testing, security remediation, and technical debt reduction.
  • Experience supporting large operational, industrial, geospatial, or data-intensive applications is beneficial.
