$189k - $255k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set architecture and engineering direction across the API Gateway, Service Mesh, and MCP Gateway.
- Design and harden the MCP Gateway, including AI-agent authentication flows, performance, security readiness, and target-state architecture.
- Lead AI-agent-enabled traffic operations such as troubleshooting, configuration impact analysis, and automated service onboarding.
- Own or co-own Envoy adoption, Java-to-Go transitions, and ICGW/3X consolidation from design through rollout.
- Evolve resiliency practices including FMEA, Game Day exercises, and load shedding to reduce P1/P2 incidents.
- Lead root-cause analysis and durable remediation for high-severity gateway and mesh traffic incidents.
- Align technical strategy with Principal Engineers and engineering managers across Gateway, Mesh, MCP/3X, and Resiliency.
- Mentor senior and staff-track engineers through design reviews and hands-on technical collaboration.
- Contribute technical input to annual roadmap planning, sequencing, scope, and risk trade-offs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience operating large-scale, low-latency distributed systems in production.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Deep hands-on expertise with Envoy, Istio, or equivalent modern service mesh and API gateway architectures, including xDS APIs, sidecar or ambient models, traffic routing, and policy enforcement.
- Strong systems-level programming ability in Go and/or Java, including experience operating or migrating hybrid-language platforms at scale.
- Experience designing authentication and authorization systems for high-throughput, security-sensitive traffic; experience with agent-to-service or machine-to-machine authentication such as OAuth, mTLS, or token exchange is preferred.
- Experience leading incident response and root-cause analysis for P1 production issues with broad organizational impact.
- Experience with AWS networking and infrastructure, including VPC, NAT/TGW, and load balancing, along with large-scale cost and performance trade-offs.
- Ability to provide technical leadership without direct reports through design documents, architecture reviews, and cross-team alignment.
