Base Salary
$207k - $244k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, monitor, and test production ML models and AI services used by Checkr’s core products.
- Use LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, fine-tuning, classical models, and rules to build production systems.
- Write clean, testable, well-structured production software with APIs, abstractions, error handling, and automated tests.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to translate business problems into ML solutions and define API contracts.
- Build evaluation frameworks, run experiments, and iterate on model and system performance using data-driven decisions.
- Automate internal pipelines, build agentic workflows, and contribute reusable skills and context to Checkr’s agentic platform.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent depth from experience.
- At least 6 years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years building ML systems running in production.
- Strong Python fluency and experience writing clean, testable, well-structured object-oriented code.
- Hands-on production experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, cost management, and evaluation.
- Experience building and maintaining APIs, working with CI/CD pipelines, and shipping code used by other engineers.
- Experience with AI-assisted workflows, LLMs, code-generation tools, or agentic systems in production or operational contexts.
- Preferred experience with MLflow, SageMaker, Vertex, document processing, OCR, information extraction, PySpark, Ruby, compliance-sensitive domains, dbt, Snowflake, or modern ELT/data transformation tools.
