Responsibilities
- Drive software architecture decisions and lead engineering efforts focused on cohesive software design.
- Advise spacecraft leadership on system-level software impacts and risks.
- Manage software interfaces and hardware-software integration.
- Build, maintain, and operate FlatSat and hardware-in-the-loop test environments.
- Validate driver-to-hardware communications with sensors, actuators, and payloads.
- Manage software deployment, configuration, flashing, and release activities for engineering models and flight computers.
- Orchestrate end-to-end mission simulations and fault-management validation.
- Lead software test definition and planning and support software verification campaigns.
- Provide first-level support for software defects and ensure defects are closed.
- Continuously improve engineering workflows, design standards, and digital engineering capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree, or a master's degree with 3 years of experience.
- Typically 5+ years of related experience, or a master's degree with 3 years of experience.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles, the systems development lifecycle, requirements management, systems architecture, systems integration, and verification and validation.
- Experience with Python or Ruby for test automation and scripting and familiarity with C or C++.
- Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, RTEMS, or VxWorks, or with embedded Linux.
- Understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and SpaceWire communication protocols and Git-based CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with satellite command and telemetry frameworks such as NASA cFS, F' (F Prime), COSMOS, or OpenMCT.
- Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship are required.
- Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field; spacecraft systems knowledge; requirements management and model-based systems engineering experience; project and configuration management experience; and experience leading projects or mentoring junior engineers.
