Responsibilities
- Operate and upgrade Kubernetes clusters, including analyzing deprecated APIs, controller compatibility, and workload impacts.
- Scan clusters for remediation needs, define corrective actions, and execute security patches and other infrastructure changes.
- Automate Kubernetes upgrades and other operational workflows across hundreds of clusters to reduce toil.
- Optimize infrastructure costs through Karpenter scaling strategies, pod bin packing, node-family selection, and capacity analysis.
- Automate creation of Kubernetes clusters and bootstrap service mesh, deployment, and observability capabilities.
- Manage the lifecycle of critical container-platform components and establish quality, security, reliability, and cost-effectiveness standards.
- Use AI and agentic workflows to improve operational processes and contribute to organizational AI skills, plugins, and best practices.
- Collaborate with platform teams, SRE, and service development teams during maintenance windows and production rollouts.
- Monitor rollout metrics, honor infrastructure-maintenance KPIs and SLAs, and stop, roll back, fix, or escalate changes when needed.
Requirements
- Experience with Kubernetes and AWS.
- Experience in software development, infrastructure management, or operations.
- Ability to write automation code in Python, Bash, or Golang.
- Experience designing infrastructure CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
- Experience with Helm templating for Kubernetes manifests.
- Understanding of GitOps tooling such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Experience rolling out infrastructure changes to production through change-management workflows.
- Knowledge of metrics used to monitor change rollouts and identify problems.
- Strong ownership during rollouts, including stopping, rolling back, fixing, or escalating issues.
- Understanding of least-privilege access, firewall configuration, workload impacts, and node rotations.
- Ability to define and measure KPIs and honor SLAs for infrastructure maintenance.
- Experience with Git and GitHub pull-request workflows.
- Experience with Agile practices, including sprints, epics/stories, and Jira.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor and understanding of agentic workflows.
- Willingness to work with service development teams and understand their operational challenges.
