Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-quality Java and Spring-based backend applications.
- Collaborate with AI/ML engineers, Product Managers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into software solutions.
- Define maintenance standards and contribute to new applications, features, and cross-project developments.
- Establish and maintain unit, integration, end-to-end, and automated integration testing practices.
- Lead code reviews and ensure software quality, maintainability, scalability, and security.
- Document architectural decisions, development phases, and system designs.
- Contribute to monitoring, performance optimization, production deployment, and incident resolution.
- Coach and mentor junior developers and foster technical excellence and collaboration.
- Evaluate technologies, drive technical innovation, and promote engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on Java backend development experience delivering enterprise-grade applications.
- BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an MSc is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Java, object-oriented programming, concurrency, and backend software architecture.
- Strong experience with RESTful API design, REST/SOAP services, and XML/JSON integrations.
- Proficiency with Maven and/or Gradle and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
- Good knowledge of Hibernate/JPA and architecture patterns including layered architecture, microservices, and event-driven systems.
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS, enterprise application servers, Tomcat, and production application deployment and configuration.
- Experience with API-driven integrations, messaging patterns, distributed architectures, and event-driven systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and comprehensive software testing strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to make architectural decisions, solve complex technical problems, communicate effectively, and mentor junior developers.
- Native Dutch and English communication skills are required; French is a plus.
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, AI/ML services and integrations, AI-driven product features, data processing, MLOps, machine learning workflows, open-source contributions, or startup and corporate environments is a plus.
