Base Salary
$164k - $282k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, multi-tiered, distributed backend services for fulfilment and order-delivery platforms.
- Benchmark the platform, collect metrics, and publish performance results.
- Measure and ensure platform reliability and uptime against a 99.995% guarantee.
- Estimate capacity and provision clusters for varied customer workloads.
- Own production monitoring and alerting for the platform.
- Analyze open-source platform components and code through hands-on investigation.
- Investigate critical system issues, address root causes, and improve operational excellence.
- Collaborate with other teams to make the platform open and extensible.
- Coach and lead high-performing software engineers and support their development.
- Collect requirements, communicate product features, and develop technical designs with end users and technical and business teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of total experience.
- At least 10 years of experience working directly within engineering teams in a fast-moving environment.
- At least 10 years of experience developing and operating backend services and web applications.
- Experience delivering complex, high-performance, highly available distributed software systems to customers.
- Strong familiarity with Java and Spring Framework and experience in an AWS environment.
- Extensive experience managing mission-critical, high-throughput, low-latency services.
- Experience with at least one SQL or NoSQL database system, such as Cassandra or MySQL.
- Strong engineering skills as a lead engineer, including coaching and motivating software engineers.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle practices including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and live site operations.
- Ability to solve problems creatively through partnerships with other teams and achieve challenging targets through personal drive.
