Responsibilities
- Build AI agent systems that learn from demonstrations and combine AI reasoning with deterministic workflow execution.
- Develop recovery, verification, workflow state management, failure-handling, and secure-access capabilities for backend services.
- Create evaluations and diagnostics that measure task success, expose regressions, and explain failures.
- Work directly with customers to understand workflows, prototype solutions, validate results, and improve the core product.
- Own substantial technical components from design through deployment and production operation.
- Evaluate model selection, tool use, and context management against reliability, latency, and cost.
- Mentor peers through design discussions and code reviews and participate in hiring.
Requirements
- Independently owned a substantial backend service or system through design, deployment, production failures, and subsequent improvements.
- Hands-on experience building and evaluating LLM-powered systems, including assessing quality and failure modes.
- Ability to reason about concurrency, persistent state, retries, and partial failures in systems that perform consequential actions.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Ability to turn ambiguous customer problems into bounded technical approaches, test them with users, and carry them through production.
- Willingness to engage directly with customers, investigate problems, and discuss technical tradeoffs.
- Helpful experience includes agent tool use, code generation, automated recovery, evaluation frameworks, browser automation, workflow orchestration, enterprise integrations, early-stage products, or customer-facing engineering.

- The typical annual base salary range is $148,500-$223,900, with a separate $178,900-$246,000 range in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas; bonus, equity, and benefits may also apply.
