Responsibilities
- Own one or more core localization areas, including LiDAR-inertial-GNSS state estimation, 3D mapping and map maintenance, or sensor calibration.
- Contribute to sensor integration, performance tuning, regression testing, and deployment of localization and mapping systems to new operating environments.
- Design and build online validation for localization integrity, cross-sensor consistency, drift detection, and integration with vehicle safety architecture.
- Develop diagnostics, health logging, and post-mission analysis tooling across the localization stack.
- Drive regression, validation, and release-gating approaches for localization changes deployed to active airports.
- Deploy, test, and iterate localization systems using data from real autonomous operations.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and cross-team collaboration across perception, planning, and platform interfaces.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in robotics or autonomous vehicles, including ownership of localization or state-estimation systems through production deployment on real hardware.
- Deep practical knowledge of multi-sensor fusion and state estimation using LiDAR, IMU, GNSS, and cameras.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in architecture, direction-setting, and solving complex estimation problems.
- Strong command of non-linear optimization with Ceres, GTSAM, or g2o and/or filtering with EKF or UKF.
- Strong modern C++ knowledge, including C++17+, and deep working experience with Linux and ROS/ROS2.
- Understanding of calibration-quality effects on localization and perception and localization-error effects on the safety case.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred: MS or PhD focused on localization, state estimation, or calibration.
- Preferred: hands-on multi-sensor intrinsic, extrinsic, and temporal calibration experience.
- Preferred: experience with factor graphs, graph-based SLAM, GLIM, LIO-SAM, Cartographer, or Kalibr.
- Preferred: experience building runtime monitoring and defining safety-relevant thresholds within a safety monitoring architecture.
- Preferred: track record of advancing autonomous systems toward driverless operation.
