Responsibilities
- Define architecture for Java-based platform services, distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven applications.
- Lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams, services, and business domains.
- Design, prototype, implement, review, debug, and troubleshoot critical production software.
- Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code to improve development, testing, debugging, documentation, and system understanding.
- Establish patterns and guardrails for AI-generated code and AI-assisted or agentic software development.
- Guide cloud-native architectures, microservices, data flows, integrations, and shared platform capabilities.
- Improve system performance, availability, observability, security, testing, and operational readiness.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, and Architecture leaders on scalable technical solutions.
- Establish engineering standards for Java development, API design, testing, CI/CD, AI-assisted development, and production operations.
- Mentor Senior and Staff Engineers and evaluate emerging engineering and AI technologies.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience building production SaaS applications, distributed systems, or enterprise software platforms.
- At least 2 years of experience developing production backend services using Java.
- Strong hands-on coding skills, including the ability to design, implement, review, debug, and operate complex production software.
- Experience providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams or product areas.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience leading architecture reviews and establishing standards adopted across multiple teams.
- Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted coding tools in real software engineering workflows.
- Ability to use and critically evaluate AI for code generation, codebase exploration, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, and technical problem-solving.
- Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction without relying solely on organizational authority.
- Preferred experience with Claude Code or similar agentic AI coding tools, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, Kafka, cloud-native and event-driven architectures, and relational databases.
- Preferred experience leading modernization, cloud migration, reliability, observability, performance, testing, or operational initiatives.
- Preferred experience integrating AI capabilities, LLMs, agents, or AI services and familiarity with LLM APIs, tool use, agents, RAG, evaluation, and prompt/context engineering.
