
Lead Machine Learning Scientist

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and training of embedding models for representation learning using approaches such as transformer encoders and Two Tower architectures.
- Lead the fine-tuning and evaluation of language models for custom use cases and content enrichment.
- Productionize embedding and language models in partnership with engineering teams for integration into user-facing products.
- Define shared practices for evaluation, responsible AI use, and quality standards.
- Identify novel project opportunities and act on proposals addressing critical problems.
- Scope product improvements and prioritize requests from the team.
- Build cross-organizational relationships to achieve project goals.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to ML scientists.
Requirements
- PhD plus 4+ years of experience, or 7+ years of experience, in machine learning, statistics, computer science, computational social science, or another quantitative or computational discipline.
- At least 4 years of experience reframing business or product challenges as machine learning tasks.
- At least 4 years of experience with data cleaning, preparation, feature engineering, and model selection.
- At least 2 years of coding and production deployment experience using Python and developing complex algorithms integrated into company processes.
- At least 2 years of experience building production systems using LLMs, vision-language models, embeddings, or other deep learning models for user-facing problems.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring peers or junior ML scientists through pairing and algorithm, model, and code review.
- Experience with information retrieval or search systems is preferred.
- At least 2 years of cross-functional collaboration with product managers and software engineers is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience scoping and staging work into milestones and delivering on communicated timelines is preferred.
