Senior Protection Element Embedded SW Developer
GE VernovaResponsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust real-time embedded software for microprocessor-based protection relays using C and C++.
- Collaborate with Protection Engineers to implement complex mathematical algorithms in efficient embedded-ready code.
- Optimize firmware for real-time execution and low-latency data processing supporting protection functions and IEC 61850 communication stacks.
- Test, profile, debug, and validate firmware stability under extreme grid conditions.
- Implement secure coding practices and cybersecurity features in compliance with IEC 62443.
- Use AI coding assistants for embedded C/C++ generation, refactoring, unit-test scaffolding, and static analysis.
- Write precise specifications and prompts for bounded, verifiable AI-generated code changes and validate the results against timing and memory constraints.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
- Expert-level proficiency in C and C++ for embedded environments.
- Knowledge of power-system protection principles or digital signal processing.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation and knowledge of GitHub.
- Experience with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, FreeRTOS, QNX, or Embedded Linux.
- Fluency in English and mandatory French proficiency for local collaboration.
- Preferred qualifications include Model-Based Design experience with MATLAB/Simulink Coder, familiarity with firmware CI/CD, experience in the energy, industrial, or aerospace sectors, communication and problem-solving skills, and established project management skills.
Benefits
- For Canadian-based positions, the stated pay range is $92,300–$142,000 CAD.
