Responsibilities
- Build and maintain custom themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, block collections, libraries, Composer packages, and development tooling.
- Scale and maintain high-traffic, multilingual WordPress sites across a portfolio of web platforms.
- Refactor legacy code and optimize queries, object caching, and Core Web Vitals performance.
- Build and consume REST APIs, custom WordPress REST endpoints, and integrations with internal and third-party systems.
- Participate in code reviews, CI/CD improvements, engineering standards initiatives, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, SEO, content, and QA teams on features and site improvements.
- Apply software development best practices and contribute to timely product delivery.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of WordPress development experience.
- Strong object-oriented PHP 8.x skills and experience with namespaces, PSR standards, and Composer.
- Deep knowledge of WordPress Core APIs, hooks, custom post types, taxonomies, WP_Query, and metadata APIs.
- Experience with ACF Pro, native custom fields, Gutenberg blocks, block.json, and @wordpress/scripts.
- Experience with React, JSX, modern JavaScript ES6+, Webpack or Vite, and modern CSS using Sass or PostCSS.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and custom WordPress REST endpoints.
- Strong understanding of WordPress security practices, including sanitization, escaping, nonces, and user capabilities.
- Experience with WordPress performance optimization, object caching, and query optimization.
- Comfort with Git-based workflows, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working in AI-assisted development environments such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Preferred experience includes Block Themes, Full Site Editing, theme.json, the WordPress Interactivity API, Bedrock, PHPUnit, Playwright, PHPStan, PHPCS/WPCS, Timber/Twig, Blade, WordPress Multisite, WPML, Polylang, headless WordPress, WPGraphQL, Next.js, WCAG 2.2, technical SEO, and enterprise or high-traffic web applications.
