Responsibilities
- Develop production-quality features and defect resolutions for Java and/or TypeScript microservices under senior engineer mentorship.
- Write unit, integration, and contract tests according to the team’s spec-driven development standards.
- Participate in GitLab peer code reviews and provide or incorporate technical feedback.
- Analyze backend performance, including database query optimization and API latency profiling.
- Create API specifications, architecture decision records, operational runbooks, and other engineering documentation.
- Enhance Datadog monitoring dashboards, alerting configurations, and structured logging to support observability and reliability.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical modernization research, and infrastructure optimization activities.
- Present project accomplishments, technical contributions, and key learnings to engineering leadership at the end of the internship.
Requirements
- Be a rising senior with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
- Maintain a current program GPA of at least 3.0.
- Be able to travel locally to Spectrum intern development events and activities.
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions or the need for future sponsorship.
- Have Java experience; TypeScript or JavaScript experience is preferred.
- Have familiarity with SQL, object-oriented programming, design patterns, RESTful API design, Git, cloud computing, containerization, testing, message-oriented middleware, and CI/CD fundamentals.
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving ability, communication skills, self-directed learning, attention to detail, and commitment to code quality.
