Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and implementation of scalable, performant, and secure backend features and services.
  • Design, build, and maintain identity onboarding and lifecycle management services for importing, syncing, and provisioning identities and access policies.
  • Directly oversee and coordinate complex technical initiatives involving more than 20 engineers across multiple workstreams.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA, SRE, and engineering teams to define technical strategy, prototype components, and deliver development and deployment work.
  • Drive engineering excellence through robust testing, monitoring, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor junior engineers and create frameworks and solutions that improve productivity across teams.
  • Stay current with identity, security, and distributed-systems technologies and apply relevant practices to Okta’s platform.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software development experience in Java.
  • At least 4 years of experience automating and deploying large-scale production services in AWS, GCP, or a similar cloud environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical projects involving more than 20 engineers across multiple workstreams.
  • Deep technical expertise in Java and experience with Hibernate and Spring Boot preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, object-oriented principles, caching, stream processing, and resilient architectures.
  • Experience with relational databases, ideally MySQL, PostgreSQL, or GraphDB.
  • Experience with server-side caching, asynchronous processing, and multithreading preferred.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, threat modeling, and identity and access management protocols including OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, and SCIM preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions and distributed teams.
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science or equivalent.
