Base Salary
$135k - $215k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable transaction-processing platforms and integration services.
- Provide technical direction for architecture, API strategy, integration patterns, and engineering standards.
- Write production code for approximately 60–75% of the role.
- Design and support APIs, web services, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Implement payment event processing, capture processing, event enrichment, transaction matching, retries, dead-letter queues, and event replay.
- Support authentication, authorization, observability, reliability, automated testing, contract testing, performance testing, and API certification.
- Use generative AI and agentic AI tools responsibly to improve engineering productivity and quality.
- Mentor engineers and drive engineering standards across teams.
- Work with payment clearing, payment message formats, payment network protocols, and regulated-industry compliance requirements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, at least 2 years with an advanced degree, 0 years with a PhD, or at least 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in one or more of Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or Kotlin.
- Experience with system design, architecture, debugging, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Experience designing, building, and supporting APIs, web services, microservices, or enterprise integration services.
- Experience with API-first design, OpenAPI, JSON, webhooks, event-driven architecture, Kafka, message queues, event streaming, or workflow orchestration.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; Docker; Kubernetes; and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, SAML, mTLS, or IAM.
- Experience with Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, service-level objectives, or reliability practices.
- Experience with automated, contract, performance, and API certification testing.
- Experience in payments, fintech, banking, or another regulated industry, including payment clearing, capture processing, transaction lifecycles, and payment network protocols.
- Experience implementing generative AI, agentic AI workflows, RAG, or intelligent automation.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering standards, with or without direct reports.
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS, SOX, financial-services compliance, SFTP, batch processing, event correlation, transaction matching, Avro, Protobuf, exactly-once processing, and idempotency patterns.
- Preferred experience includes 6+ years with a Bachelor’s Degree, 4+ years with an advanced degree, or up to 3 years with a PhD.
