Base Salary
$208k - $263k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the simulation platform architecture, including simulation control, run identity, determinism, reproducibility, batch execution, and log storage and indexing.
- Build and manage log-replay pipelines, including replayable test cases, open-loop scoring against ground truth, and closed-loop replay.
- Own scenario schemas, scenario libraries, coverage definitions, and commit, nightly, regression, and release-validation suites.
- Define release-gating criteria, reporting, and resolution workflows for failing scenarios.
- Evaluate simulation-platform build-versus-buy options and manage resulting vendor relationships and service levels.
- Measure and report differences between simulated and vehicle behavior as a simulation-fidelity metric.
- Set engineering practices for testing, review, documentation, and simulation-result reporting.
- Mentor engineers, participate in hiring, and represent simulation requirements and constraints in cross-functional roadmap discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- 2+ years as a technical lead or engineering manager setting technical direction and driving consensus across engineers and stakeholders.
- Experience owning a production continuous-integration simulation platform with determinism, reproducibility, and execution-at-scale accountability.
- Hands-on experience building large-scale log replay with ground-truth scoring and closed-loop divergence handling.
- Experience with system-level scenario-based testing, scenario libraries, coverage definitions, and test-suite architecture.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, including debugging and navigating large existing codebases.
- Demonstrated build-versus-buy judgment for simulation or test infrastructure, including subsequent maintenance costs.
- Experience with an autonomous vehicle or robotics platform and end-to-end understanding of sensing, perception, localization, planning, and controls.
- Working experience with robotics middleware and its logging and replay tooling.
- Experience handling camera, LiDAR, and radar data across multiple modalities and timestamps.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising a team's technical standards.
- Working fluency with modern AI coding and agentic development tools.
- Ability to work onsite five days a week in San Francisco.
