Responsibilities
- Advise on technical direction across Video Editor projects, review design documents, and help project captains choose effective approaches.
- Lead integration of Canva’s native video rendering engine into the editor, initially supporting the Audio Studio team and later the wider Video Editor group.
- Work with the video-specific data model and foundations for effects such as adjustment layers and masking.
- Own systems beyond launch, including monitoring, rollout, observability, and operational performance.
- Set engineering standards through code review, mentoring, and hands-on technical leadership.
Requirements
- Technical lead experience guiding a team of engineers and providing trusted technical direction.
- Continued hands-on software development experience.
- Experience owning complex, interactive web applications used by many people.
- Strong TypeScript and React skills with the ability to make sound architectural decisions.
- Systems thinking across frontend and backend concerns and a strong sense of operational ownership.
- Preferred experience includes audio engineering or processing, video editing, multimedia or content-creation tools, real-time collaborative editing, OT or CRDT conflict resolution, graphics programming, WebGL, C++, design tools, or other creative software.
