Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product to clarify requirements, outcomes, priorities, constraints, acceptance criteria, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs.
  • Partner with Design to translate intended workflows into complete, functional product experiences.
  • Own approved product initiatives from technical design and implementation through deployment, infrastructure management, operation, and post-launch improvement.
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reliable, reusable, testable, secure, and production-ready software.
  • Operate Claude Code as a primary development environment and orchestrate multiple agents, sub-agents, worktrees, branches, and development sessions.
  • Create reusable Claude Code skills, commands, hooks, context files, agent instructions, feedback loops, and development workflows.
  • Use agents for system investigation, planning, coding, testing, code review, pull-request preparation, releases, infrastructure provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Establish quality gates and methods to measure the effectiveness, quality, cost, and speed of AI-native engineering workflows.
  • Review agent-generated code at Principal or Staff engineering standards and reject unnecessary complexity, abstraction, duplication, security weaknesses, and oversized changes.
  • Debug issues across application code, infrastructure, data systems, third-party services, and development tooling.
  • Work across Ruby on Rails, TypeScript/Node.js, MongoDB, relational data, AWS, GCP, Android, iOS, Go, frontend, backend, mobile, infrastructure, integrations, and internal tooling.
  • Manage infrastructure and deployment workflows across AWS and GCP while improving legacy systems.

Requirements

  • Significant experience at the Staff, Principal, or equivalent engineering level and 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex production software with Product and Design teams.
  • Expert-level, substantial product-development experience with Claude Code, beyond autocomplete or simple prompting.
  • Experience coordinating multiple AI agents or development sessions using agent context, skills, sub-agents, tools, planning, verification, and orchestration.
  • Production experience with both a dynamic language ecosystem and a strongly typed ecosystem; production TypeScript/Node.js experience is required.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and document/NoSQL databases; MongoDB experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating production software in distributed cloud environments across AWS, GCP, or both, including service-oriented or microservice architectures.
  • Hands-on production experience applying AI/ML, such as integrating LLMs or models into products or workflows, building retrieval or agentic systems, prompt/evaluation design, or on-device/edge inference.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining APIs and integrating third-party APIs.
  • Strong experience with automated CI/CD pipelines and software testing practices.
  • Ability to translate business and product requirements into technical requirements and implementation plans.
  • Strong product judgment, including understanding user intent, identifying edge cases, and evaluating whether implementations satisfy requirements.
  • Strong understanding of software design, architecture, security, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Ability to critically review AI-generated code and distinguish high-quality engineering from superficially functional output.
  • Comfort working across unfamiliar languages, frameworks, and legacy systems with AI assistance.
  • Strong ownership, initiative, building orientation, and written and verbal communication skills.
