Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test software features for Azure database services.
- Build components that improve database performance, scalability, reliability, security, and developer productivity.
- Work with large-scale distributed systems and cloud infrastructure to solve engineering challenges.
- Write maintainable code and participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and deployment.
- Analyze system telemetry and performance data to identify optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and researchers to deliver data and AI capabilities.
- Develop automation, tooling, and observability solutions for efficient service operations.
- Apply software design, security, performance, and live-site engineering practices.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with at least one semester or term remaining after the internship; alternatively, currently pursuing a master’s degree with the same remaining-enrollment requirement.
- Coursework or project experience in algorithms, databases, distributed systems, operating systems, or networking is preferred.
- Programming experience in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python is preferred.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, or distributed systems is preferred.
- Exposure to database concepts such as SQL, data modeling, indexing, transactions, query processing, or distributed data is preferred.
- Experience building, debugging, or testing software through academic, personal, research, internship, or open-source projects is preferred.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts including generative AI, embeddings, vector search, retrieval, or AI agents is preferred.
- Interest in database systems, cloud computing, distributed systems, and AI-powered data applications is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate technical ideas clearly.
Benefits
- The internship base pay range is USD $5,690.00-$11,210.00 per month, with a separate USD $7,410.00-$12,250.00 per month range for certain San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area locations.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
