Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and operate database components such as ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.
- Help architect and build a scalable multi-tenant database SaaS foundation, including tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and service boundaries.
- Build APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to retrieve data quickly.
- Make architectural and product tradeoffs as the project evolves from prototype to production-grade SaaS.
- Instrument and operate database services using metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.
- Contribute to service boundaries, storage choices, API contracts, deployment patterns, and engineering practices.
- Own database solutions end to end, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with user workflows.
Requirements
- Experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems and delivering software actively used by customers.
- Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, and query engines.
- Mastery of a programming language such as Go, C++, or Rust.
- Experience working in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience using observability tools to understand and troubleshoot system behavior.
- Ability to work autonomously, make architectural decisions, iterate quickly, and operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred experience includes building distributed query engines, data warehouses, data lakes, or tools for data engineering.
- Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks is preferred.
