Base Salary
$115k - $235k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement software features and distributed-system components with independent judgment and minimal supervision.
- Improve scalability, data-processing performance, reliability, and system efficiency while reviewing peer implementations.
- Build fault-tolerant components using replication, failover, retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts.
- Implement functional, load, performance, and failure-scenario tests to validate correctness and availability.
- Develop dashboards, alerts, telemetry, runbooks, troubleshooting tools, and infrastructure automation.
- Participate in operational support rotations, incident response, and root-cause investigations.
- Apply encryption and access controls, address security vulnerabilities, and support safe updates and rollbacks.
- Collaborate across teams, share knowledge, and escalate complex issues when needed.
Requirements
- Eight years of software development experience; or a relevant bachelor’s degree and four years of experience; or a relevant master’s degree and two years of experience; or a relevant doctorate.
- Two years of professional experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OCI.
- Three years of experience in system-level testing and automation.
- Two years of experience delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Java and strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills, including diagnosing operating-environment issues and improving system efficiency.
- Experience developing, testing, and integrating secure REST APIs and services, with knowledge of modern web application development.
- Experience across the software development lifecycle, including source control, code reviews, and prototyping.
- Ability to assess security vulnerabilities and apply appropriate protections.
- Preferred: proficiency with Python or Perl, experience with multi-tenant virtualized infrastructure, and knowledge of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies.
