Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services from ideation through production.
- Lead technical direction, architecture decisions, design reviews, and complex feature delivery for the squad.
- Mentor E1/E2 engineers through pairing, code review, and coaching.
- Drive testing strategy, observability, and engineering best practices.
- Use AI for architecture exploration, refactoring, prototyping, coding, debugging, and analysis, and champion AI-powered squad tools.
- Lead incident response and blameless postmortems within the domain.
- Break down ambiguous problems into milestones and deliver work predictably.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems at scale.
- Strong Java experience; Python or Go experience is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred.
- Expert-level debugging across service boundaries and a track record of balancing scalability, reliability, and speed.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions.
- Clear communication with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, along with comfort operating amid ambiguity.
- Fluency in Spanish and working knowledge of English for cross-team collaboration.
- Experience with fintech, payments, or lending; Mexican financial regulation such as CNBV or Condusef; on-call and incident management; or engineering-culture contributions are nice to have.
