Base Salary
$175k - $245k/yr
Responsibilities
- Assess customer hardware environments and build proof-of-concept integration layers before contracts are signed.
- Design and implement hardware integration layers between Karman and customer infrastructure, including reviewing hardware designs and identifying integration gaps.
- Write, modify, and debug embedded firmware and develop FPGA hardware and RTL adaptations for customer platforms.
- Own customer hardware integrations from kickoff through design, validation, release, and deployment.
- Lead customer-facing technical calls, on-site visits, and requirements reviews.
- Create design reviews, validation and test checklists, installation and power-up guides, release timelines, KPI trackers, and after-action reports.
- Develop hardware design collateral covering layout, schematics, power, I/O, signal integrity, thermal, and RFI requirements.
- Produce System-on-Module and metrology bring-up documentation and review schematics, layouts, and test results.
- Track hardware KPIs and risks, coordinate issue resolution, and translate field learnings into product improvements.
- Build repeatable processes, templates, and best practices for the new Application Engineering function.
Requirements
- 6+ years of hands-on hardware and embedded firmware engineering experience with independent ownership from concept through production.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field, or equivalent training and on-the-job experience.
- End-to-end experience designing hardware integration points, including PCB-level design, interface definition, and system bring-up.
- FPGA development experience covering hardware design/RTL and firmware.
- Proficiency independently writing, modifying, and debugging embedded firmware.
- Working knowledge of I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, and other embedded or data center interfaces and protocols.
- Ability to read and critically review schematics, PCB layouts, and test results.
- Experience producing design review checklists, test plans, validation procedures, and deployment documentation.
- Strong communication skills for presenting technical content to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Experience with data center infrastructure, power electronics, or energy management hardware.
- Willingness to travel for customer kickoffs, on-site reviews, and deployment validation.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, familiarity with System-on-Module or metrology hardware, knowledge of power quality, thermal management, or power sequencing, and experience with embedded Linux, BSP bring-up, or Yocto-based OS customization.
- Preferred experience includes ZeroMQ, Protobuf, gRPC, REST APIs, and prior customer-facing technical work such as Field Application Engineer or systems integration engineer experience.
