Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to refine requirements and create effective technical solutions.
- Own the full development lifecycle from concept refinement and architecture through implementation and delivery of robust microservices and modern web applications.
- Build full-stack features and third-party integrations for dealer-facing products using Java, React, TypeScript, and related technologies.
- Modernize and rearchitect systems to leverage cloud technologies such as AWS.
- Ensure reliable, performant, and well-tested code through automated testing across the testing pyramid.
- Promote observability and operational excellence by using metrics to diagnose, mitigate, and resolve production issues across services.
- Use AI technologies to improve software development efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Mentor engineers and provide guidance and feedback on technical decision-making.
- Own projects from conception to completion while collaborating with teams in Dublin and the United States.
- Help establish the culture of CarGurus’ new Dublin office.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional Software Engineering experience, including 3+ years as a technical lead or principal engineer.
- Deep full-stack expertise with Java and TypeScript or similar languages, and frameworks such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, and React.
- 5+ years designing, building, deploying, scaling, testing, and evolving distributed systems in 24/7 production environments.
- 2+ years using cloud infrastructure technologies such as AWS and Terraform or similar cloud services.
- Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting production systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical concepts for engineering and business audiences.
- A self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive approach to driving projects and business goals.
- Aptitude for using AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar; hands-on LLM experience is a plus.
- Bonus experience with server-side TypeScript and modern isomorphic frameworks such as Remix, Next.js, or Express.
