Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and review backend features, services, integrations, data access, and APIs.
- Own correctness, performance, observability, releases, and operational reliability for services.
- Contribute to architecture, database schema improvements, caching, deployment, and operational runbooks.
- Partner with product and engineering teams on requirements, estimates, API contracts, and technical trade-offs.
- Review code, clarify designs, mentor engineers informally, and lead technical delivery for the team.
- Drive improvements to contracts, testing, CI/CD hygiene, documentation, and operational toil reduction.
- Collaborate with UI engineers on API contracts, authentication flows, and end-to-end behavior.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience shipping production backend services in Java or an equivalent JVM stack.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Spring Boot or common Spring patterns, REST APIs, validation, OAuth2 or JWT authentication integration, and API versioning or backward compatibility.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills including schema design, migrations, indexing, transactions, and slow-query debugging.
- Hands-on experience with Redis, Valkey, or a similar caching system, including cache keys, TTLs, invalidation, and failure modes.
- Experience with Gradle or Maven, unit and integration testing, code reviews, Git, and collaborative branching and review practices.
- Experience with Docker and deploying or operating services on AWS or a similar cloud platform, including configurations, secrets, logs, and metrics.
- Experience with production observability, including metrics, logs, and tracing, and with safe error handling and idempotency.
- Preferred experience with ad tech, auctions, bidding, strict latency budgets, high-volume systems, Rust or other systems languages, Kubernetes, GitOps-style deployments, event-driven systems, messaging, stream processing, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
- Comfort reading, debugging, or occasionally contributing to web UI code using React, TypeScript, Vite, Material UI, TanStack Query, React Router, and Tailwind CSS.
- Prior mentoring, technical leadership, or experience leading small initiatives.
