Responsibilities
- Own the double-entry accounting ledger, including its accounting model, invariants, and correctness guarantees under concurrency, retries, and failure.
- Design and lead pay-as-you-go metering, billing, fixed-term commitment, and enterprise licensing-packaging systems.
- Build reconciliation, controls, auditability, immutability, and lineage so Finance can close the books and auditors can trace recognized revenue.
- Translate ASC 606, deferred revenue, contract modifications, and true-ups into precise, testable system behavior with Finance, Accounting, Revenue, and Product.
- Lead major features end-to-end through design reviews, code reviews, written documentation, and mentorship.
- Drive observability, service-level objectives, low pager noise, and blameless incident learning.
- Set technical direction across teams and shape the roadmap and architecture for critical financial systems.
Requirements
- 8+ years building backend services with strong correctness, consistency, and durability guarantees at scale.
- Depth in financial or transactional systems such as ledgers, double-entry accounting, billing, payments, or revenue recognition.
- Understanding and practical experience with idempotency, exactly-once semantics, immutability, and reconciliation.
- Fluency in Python or Go; interviews will be conducted in one of those languages.
- Experience partnering with Finance, Accounting, or other non-engineering stakeholders to translate policy and ambiguity into dependable systems.
- Staff-level ability to set technical direction across teams, shape shared architecture, and raise engineering standards.
- Experience preparing financial systems for SOX or external financial audits is preferred.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for FedRAMP compliance.
