Senior Control & Protection Application Engineer
GE VernovaResponsibilities
- Own requirements, design, implementation, and testing of HVDC control and protection application software.
- Perform analysis, simulation, testing, and integration for assigned components, modules, and systems.
- Design and develop event- and rate-driven application software for control and protection systems.
- Analyze power-system and AC/HVDC interactions and support dynamic performance and protection-coordination studies.
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineers and lead small, low-risk projects.
- Drive continuous improvement, operational planning, and standardized design practices.
- Lead team usage of Git, Jira, and Confluence for version control, task and defect management, and documentation.
Requirements
- Engineering degree in Computer Science or power systems and power electronics, or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in the HVDC business.
- Experience leading design and development of event- and rate-driven control and protection application software.
- Competence in power-system functional characteristics and AC/HVDC system interactions.
- Knowledge of PSCAD and competence with MATLAB-Simulink simulation tools.
- Knowledge of HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategy.
- Ability to work with HVDC system and plant models using transient tools such as PSCAD and RSCAD.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical standards including IEC 61850 and IEC 62351.
- Process improvement or root-cause analysis experience or certification is desirable.
- Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
