Base Salary
$176k - $244k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, monitor, and test production ML models, AI systems, APIs, and services.
- Use LLM APIs and other modeling approaches to build AI systems while balancing cost, latency, and quality.
- Write clean, structured, tested production software with error handling and appropriate abstractions.
- Partner with Product Engineering and product teams to translate business problems into ML solutions and define API contracts.
- Build evaluation frameworks, run experiments, and make data-driven decisions about model and system performance.
- Automate pipelines, build agentic workflows, and contribute reusable skills and context to Checkr’s agentic platform.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent depth from experience.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years building ML systems in production.
- Strong Python skills and experience writing clean, testable, well-structured code with solid object-oriented programming practices.
- Hands-on experience using LLM APIs in production, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, cost management, and evaluation.
- Experience building and maintaining APIs, working with CI/CD pipelines, and shipping code used by other engineers.
- Experience or comfort with AI-assisted workflows, LLMs, code-generation tools, or agentic systems in production or operational contexts.
- Experience with MLOps platforms such as MLflow, SageMaker, or Vertex is preferred.
- Experience with document processing, OCR, information extraction, PySpark, Ruby, dbt, Snowflake, or modern ELT/data transformation tools is preferred.
- Familiarity with compliance-sensitive domains such as fintech, legal technology, or HR technology is preferred.
