Responsibilities
- Lead modernization of legacy Java/J2EE applications across Helios platforms into AWS-based cloud-native architectures.
- Define target architecture patterns, design principles, implementation approaches, and modernization strategies.
- Lead proofs of concept and translate successful results into scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Influence engineering standards and architectural decisions across the Helios development community.
- Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews while enforcing coding standards and maintainable design practices.
- Mentor and coach engineers in low-level design, object-oriented design, and modern software engineering practices.
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams on build, release, deployment readiness, CI/CD, and containerization adoption.
- Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve developer productivity, quality, and delivery speed.
- Design or integrate distributed systems involving onboard and offboard architectures, machine-to-cloud communication, and edge-to-cloud communication.
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on development and technical leadership experience.
- Proven Java/J2EE application development experience, including leading the design and delivery of scalable services.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented design, and low-level design principles.
- Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications and transitioning to microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Spring frameworks, REST/JSON APIs, and distributed system design.
- Knowledge of Postgres, SQL, NoSQL, and data access technologies including JPA, Hibernate, and JDBC.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and building high-quality, testable software.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven or equivalent build tools, and debugging.
- Experience leading or contributing to proofs of concept, innovation initiatives, or modernization programs.
- Experience influencing cross-functional and global teams without direct authority, with strong technical communication, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with Docker, DevOps/CI-CD pipelines, and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Experience with software systems in autonomous vehicles, mining, construction, or similar industrial domains.
- Understanding of onboard machine and offboard cloud/office architectures, communication protocols, networking concepts, messaging systems, telemetry pipelines, and distributed autonomy platforms.
