Responsibilities
- Design and build event-driven, data-intensive backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, Amazon Aurora, ECS, and SQS.
- Develop microservices architectures with clear service boundaries, data ownership, synchronous REST communication, and asynchronous messaging patterns.
- Drive test-driven development and maintain unit, integration, and contract test coverage for reliable production services.
- Develop AI pipelines and scalable AI-enabled systems for structured and unstructured data, intelligent decision systems, and healthcare applications.
- Design cloud-native architectures and distributed systems supporting AI-driven applications.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, research, and technical leadership stakeholders to translate requirements into deployable solutions.
- Support additional project tasks and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and deploying AI-enabled systems in production.
- Hands-on experience with React, Node.js, TypeScript, production-grade services, REST APIs, and integrations.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or Claude Code.
- Experience with AWS data and messaging services, microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, and AI workloads.
- Demonstrated experience with test-driven development and automated unit, integration, and contract testing.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and DevOps practices for scalable AI systems.
- Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems and guiding technical discussions.
- Preferred experience building AI solutions in regulated healthcare or federal government environments.
- Preferred familiarity with FHIR, HL7, healthcare interoperability standards, AI orchestration frameworks, agent-based architectures, relational data modeling, PostgreSQL performance tuning, Amazon SQS, Amazon S3, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- U.S. citizenship is required; selected candidates must complete a background check and be able to obtain and maintain a government Public Trust clearance, including fingerprinting when required.
