Base Salary
$175k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and evolution of SkyNav, backend services, telemetry infrastructure, and autonomous aircraft software.
- Set software engineering standards through architecture, design reviews, code reviews, testing, observability, CI/CD, and technical decision-making.
- Lead architecture for the ArduPilot C++ fork, safety-relevant vehicle software changes, and integration with avionics, hardware, and autonomy systems.
- Design SkyNav’s 3D visualization and mission-planning architecture using JavaScript or TypeScript and modern web graphics.
- Architect and scale the telemetry hub and make infrastructure build-versus-buy decisions for reliable real-time fleet data.
- Apply AI and machine learning to engineering automation, data analysis, debugging, and operator tools.
- Drive alignment across GNC, robotics, embedded software, flight operations, hardware, and leadership.
- Mentor senior engineers, write technical design documents, and turn ambiguous priorities into validated technical plans.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems spanning multiple teams.
- Deep production proficiency in Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, and C++.
- Experience architecting and shipping across user interfaces, 3D experiences, backend services, and systems software.
- Experience designing distributed systems and APIs for performance, reliability, load balancing, and observability at scale.
- Experience in aviation, robotics, autonomous systems, or another environment where software interacts with real-world hardware.
- Strong applied AI fluency, including modern AI development tools and AI-enabled product or operational capabilities.
- Evidence of force multiplication through technical standards, architectural designs, and mentoring engineers.
- Ability to debug across application, network, operating system, and hardware boundaries and own ambiguous problems through deployment.
- Preferred experience with ArduPilot, PX4, Electron, CesiumJS, Three.js, Babylon.js, WebGL, real-time telemetry, event streaming, fleet systems, high-availability infrastructure, embedded Linux, avionics, sensors, direct hardware communication, GNC, computer vision, autonomy, flight testing, FAA operations, UAS regulations, defense programs, or export-controlled development environments.
