Responsibilities
- Lead the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of core indexing engines and enterprise trust capabilities for Atlassian Search and Rovo.
- Own technical strategy for multi-cloud deployments, isolated cloud, FedRAMP, BYOK encryption, data residency, tenant isolation, and zero-downtime migrations.
- Evolve high-throughput, low-latency distributed ingestion and indexing pipelines for freshness, context relevance, and scale across billions of events.
- Coordinate technical direction and shared platform capabilities across ML, Data, Cloud Infrastructure, and product teams.
- Improve ingestion throughput, data freshness, reliability, sharding, storage, and compute efficiency while optimizing unit economics.
- Advance retrieval architectures, vector and hybrid indexing, and agentic memory patterns for AI-era workloads.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience delivering enterprise-grade platform requirements including tenant isolation, multi-cloud deployments, compliance frameworks, and zero-downtime migrations at scale.
- Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed data pipelines, search or indexing systems, or streaming platforms.
- Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Flink, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, object-store-backed indexing, and vector search.
- Ability to drive alignment and delivery across multiple teams and systems while executing independently.
- Track record of making fast, pragmatic technical trade-offs without accumulating long-term technical debt.
- Familiarity with systems supporting AI agents and safe, pragmatic agentic engineering practices.
