Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-quality solutions for Honeycomb’s query and data storage infrastructure.
- Improve query performance, evolve the Retriever service, and increase storage-layer reliability and scalability.
- Scope and deliver complex projects independently from design through production support.
- Collaborate with Product Management and engineering teams to connect technical solutions to product needs.
- Participate in production on-call rotations, define team KPIs and SLOs, and proactively reduce operational toil.
- Explore storage techniques and query optimization strategies for systems operating at large scale.
- Pair with teammates, review code, provide constructive feedback, and mentor engineers.
- Diagnose and resolve difficult production issues and drive foundational work across engineering.
Requirements
- Expertise writing Go and experience building or operating high-throughput or complex systems.
- Technical leadership experience designing patterns and guidelines that improve performance and reliability.
- Experience scoping and delivering complex, multi-team projects with end-to-end ownership.
- Deep debugging expertise across production systems and a focus on reliability and business impact.
- Ability to mentor engineers, collaborate effectively, and influence adoption of technologies beyond the immediate team.
- Database engineering experience is a plus.
- Comfort with Kubernetes is a plus.
