
Senior Orchestration Software Engineer- Workflow & Integration

Responsibilities
- Translate scientist and operator requirements into orchestration designs and software implementations.
- Implement state models, event-driven run-control logic, exception handling, recovery, rollback, and scheduling for automated work cells and instruments.
- Develop reusable drivers, adapters, and interface modules aligned with documented contracts, coding standards, and versioning.
- Integrate instruments and robots with schedulers and data services using interfaces and SDKs.
- Partner with data engineering experts to define schemas, data contracts, and event models supporting analytics and ML features.
- Apply secure development practices, automated testing, configuration-as-code, and release documentation.
- Instrument workflows with telemetry, logs, and alerts; define service-level indicators and objectives; and participate in postmortems and reliability exercises.
- Produce onboarding materials, support operator UAT and day-two enablement, and support commissioning, cutovers, and hypercare.
- Track reuse, commissioning time, error and rerun reduction, and uptime across orchestration workflows.
Requirements
- PhD with 0 years, MS with 4 years, or BS with 8 years in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years building software for lab or industrial automation or robotics, including hands-on orchestration or controls integration.
- Proficiency in one or more automation-oriented programming languages such as Python, C#, or Java.
- Experience with event-driven patterns, state machines, interfaces, SDKs, message buses, schedulers, and data services.
- Familiarity with schema design, data contracts, and basic SQL.
- Ability to collaborate with scientists, operators, mechatronics and controls teams, and data engineers, and produce clear user-focused documentation.
- Ability to periodically work in laboratory or manufacturing environments, handle required lifting, work around hazardous materials, and use PPE.
- Preferred: experience with biologics workflows such as cell culture, purification, and analytics, and integration with ELN, LIMS, or SDMS systems.
- Preferred: hands-on experience with robotics SDKs, vision or sensor verification, barcode or RFID systems, or material-handling subsystems.
- Preferred: familiarity with observability tooling, service-level definition, and structured postmortems.
